Art. 1 – General information on Gravellina – Rural Roads

Gravellina – Rural Roads is a non-competitive cycling event that aims to promote and publicise the local area, tours, culture, food and wine of the Valtellina.

Gravellina – Rural Roads will take place in Sondrio on 20 and 21 September 2025.

Art. 2 – Event overview

Gravellina – Rural Roads is a non-competitive cycling tourism event over unsignposted and unsupervised routes to be completed by participants entirely autonomously and at their own pace.

Participants acknowledge and accept that Gravellina – Rural Roads tours include dirt roads and mountain routes over sometimes rough and uneven terrain.

Likewise, Gravellina – Rural Roads participants acknowledge and accept that they take part in the event freely, at their own risk and on their own responsibility, and with no additional rights to those enjoyed by other users of the trails and roads.

Gravellina – Rural Roads offers tours requiring a high degree of mental and physical effort and riding skills.

When choosing to register for a tour, participants must give due consideration to their own physical fitness and riding skills, their willingness to adapt to route and weather conditions, and their ability to use navigation instruments. By registering for a tour or initiative, participants make an informed and conscious decision that releases the event organisers from all liability.

Art. 3 – Permitted bicycles

Gravellina – Rural Roads routes are designed for gravel bike riding. Other types of bicycles are also permitted, provided that they are suitable for riding over dirt, paved and rough terrain.

Art. 4 – Gravellina – Strade Rurali tours

The tour programme is as follows:

Saturday, 20 September 2025

“1/2 Gravellina – East” is an intermediate-length tour with average elevation gain that is concentrated at a few points involving steep climbs and challenging sections and requires a high level of fitness and stamina. The tour is aimed at professional athletes as well as amateur or leisure sports practitioners and is a high/special cardio stress sports activity within the meaning of Article 4(1) of Ministerial Decree of 24 April 2013.

“1/4 Gravellina – The Short Tour” is a shorter tour with less elevation gain and more gradual climbs that nonetheless requires a good level of physical fitness. The tour is aimed at those who carry out occasional motor activity for mainly recreational purposes, on an intermittent and non-continuous basis within the meaning of Article 2(2)(b) of Ministerial Decree of 24 April 2013.

Sunday, 21 September 2025

“1/2 Gravellina – West” is an intermediate-length tour with average elevation gain that is concentrated at a few points involving steep climbs and challenging sections and requires a high level of fitness and stamina. The tour is aimed at professional athletes as well as amateur or leisure sports practitioners and is a high/special cardio stress sports activity within the meaning of Article 4(1) of Ministerial Decree of 24 April 2013.

“E-bike among the Vines” is a shorter tour with less elevation gain and more gradual climbs that nonetheless requires a good level of physical fitness. The tour is aimed at those who carry out occasional motor activity for mainly recreational purposes, on an intermittent and non-continuous basis, within the meaning of Article 2(2)(b) of Ministerial Decree of 24 April 2013.

GPX maps of the routes will be sent by email prior to the event and are to be considered valid – together with authorisation to pass through certain protected areas, areas of historical and natural interest or private areas – exclusively for the day of the event on which the specific tour is scheduled.

Participants should load the itinerary of their registered tour onto their navigation device and follow it without diversions or shortcuts. In case of accidental deviations from the route, participants must backtrack to the point where they left the route and continue on their way. Off-track participants will be considered excluded from the event. The event organisers reserve the right to set up checks along the route to ensure that participants do not make use of shortcuts.

In the interests of participant safety, the event organisers reserve the right to change or completely revise tour itineraries up until the scheduled departure time, subject to notification, including details of the new itinerary and how to download it.

Participants are responsible for ensuring that they actually participate in the tour for which they are registered.

Participants are further responsible for ensuring they take out personal and third-party insurance cover, either in the form of individual policies or by virtue of membership of sport event organisations.

Art. 5 – Timed sections

At the event organisers’ discretion, timed sections may be included on the “1/2 Gravellina – East” and “1/2 Gravellina – West” routes for added participant enjoyment and therefore for purely recreational and strictly non-competitive purposes.

As specified in Ministerial Decree of 24 April 2013, a medical check-up prior to participation in recreational motor activities is nonetheless recommended to assess risk factors, particularly for individuals with a sedentary lifestyle taking up such activities or engaging in intense physical exercise.

Participants must check the certification requirements of each tour and submit the above-mentioned documents, as relevant, by email to people@gravellina.com by 23:59 on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, the deadline for online registration.

Participants registering on location must present copies of any required documents at the time of registration/accreditation at the info point set up by the event organisers.
